Brian Dent Limited provides a comprehensive range of reliable plant and tool hire equipment to support projects of all sizes, from large-scale construction and agricultural works to smaller, one-off jobs. We offer both self-drive and operated plant hire, flexible hire terms, and a dependable delivery and collection service.

Brian Dent Limited has been trading for over 65 years, with the current directors having been involved throughout their lives. Our team is highly skilled and experienced, with many members having over 20 years of industry experience and long-standing service within the company.
What are your opening hours?
Our depot is open Monday to Friday from 07:30 to 18:00 (last returns at 17:30) and Saturday from 08:00 to 12:00 (last returns at 11:30).
Our office is open Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 17:30.
The depot is closed on all Bank Holidays, as well as the Saturday of Bank Holiday weekends. We also close from 11:00 on Christmas Eve and reopen on 2nd January – depending on how the days fall.

Do you hire to the general public?
Yes, we provide hire services to both trade customers and members of the general public.
What are your terms and conditions?
All hires are subject to the CPA Model Conditions of Hire. A copy is available upon request and is also provided on the reverse of all delivery and collection notes.
How do I hire equipment?
To hire equipment, you will need to open an account with us by providing identification or trade references. Please allow up to 48 hours for account setup. For further information, please contact our office.
What identification is required to open an account?
We require valid photo identification (such as a driving licence or passport) and recent proof of address (for example, a council tax bill, utility bill, or bank statement).
For partnerships, identification is required for all partners.
How do you use my information?
We use your information to provide quotations, respond to enquiries, and communicate relevant service information. With your consent, we may also use your details for marketing purposes. You may opt out at any time. We are committed to full GDPR compliance and only collect the data necessary to deliver our services. We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
Do I need to pay a deposit?
In certain cases, a deposit may be required. This is fully refundable upon completion of the hire, subject to all terms being met.
How do I close an account?
To close an account, please contact us by telephone or write to us at Littlemoor Mill, Whalley Road, Clitheroe, BB7 1PW. Accounts are automatically closed after 24 months of inactivity but can be reactivated if required.
How do I make a complaint?
We aim to provide the highest level of service. If you are dissatisfied for any reason, please contact us and we will work with you to resolve the issue promptly.
Can I book equipment in advance?
Yes, we recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for larger plant or high-demand equipment.
What size machine do I need?
The appropriate machine depends on your project requirements, including the nature of the work and site access. We offer a full range of equipment and are happy to provide guidance to help you select the most suitable option.
Do I need a licence or certificate to use the equipment?
Private hirers using equipment on private property do not require a licence. Trade users may require certification depending on site requirements.
Do I need insurance to hire equipment?
Yes, valid insurance covering hired-in plant against damage and theft is required. If you do not have your own policy, we can offer a HireSecure Damage Waiver for an additional fee.
Do your rates include VAT?
All quoted rates exclude VAT, insurance, and fuel. A full written quotation can be provided upon request.
What is classed as a “day” hire?
A day hire is defined as up to 8 hours of use within a single calendar day. It does not operate on a 24-hour basis.
Do you offer half-day hire?
We only offer full-day hire rates. Some equipment may also be subject to minimum hire periods.
What is classed as a “week” hire?
A week hire typically covers five calendar days (Monday to Friday). Weekend use is not charged unless the equipment is in operation.
Do you supply operators?
Yes, operated plant hire is available. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.
How long can I hire equipment for?
Equipment can be hired for periods ranging from a single day to several months or longer, depending on your needs.
Can I cancel or amend a booking?
We aim to be as flexible as possible. Please contact us to make changes. Late cancellations may incur an administrative fee.
Do you deliver and collect equipment?
Yes, delivery and collection services are available for an additional charge. Alternatively, equipment can be collected from and returned to our depot.
Can I request early delivery?
We will always try to accommodate delivery preferences; however, early delivery slots are limited and cannot be guaranteed.
Do I need to be present for delivery?
Yes, a responsible person must be present to sign for the delivery and receive operational guidance.
Is equipment checked before hire?
Yes, all equipment is thoroughly inspected, tested, and maintained prior to hire to ensure safety and reliability.
Am I responsible for damage or theft?
Yes, the hirer is responsible for the equipment during the hire period, including while awaiting collection. Charges may apply for damage, theft, or associated losses.
What happens if equipment breaks down on site?
Please contact us immediately. We will provide support remotely, attend site if necessary, or arrange a replacement as quickly as possible.
Will I be charged for a burst hose?
If the damage is caused during operation, the hirer is liable. If it is due to wear or a defect, no charge will apply.
Who is responsible for tyre punctures?
The hirer is responsible for all punctures and should arrange repair through a local tyre specialist.
What happens if a track comes off?
We can arrange for a fitter to attend site. This service is usually chargeable, depending on time and distance.
What should I do if equipment will not start?
Please check basic operating conditions (such as safety switches and controls). If the issue persists, contact us for assistance.
What happens if I damage a utility or service?
The hirer is responsible for identifying and protecting all underground and above-ground services and for any resulting damage. We offer survey equipment to assist in locating services where required.
How do I return equipment?
Equipment can be returned to our depot or collected by arrangement for the agreed transport charge.
I have stated how long I wish to hire something for when ordering, do I need to phone to off hire this?
Yes, ALL items need to be off hired when they are finished with, even if you have told us that you only need it for a specific period of time. We deal with many contracts each day and our system doesn’t allow us to create collection notes until after the item has been delivered. You may also experience delays and hold ups on site.
To avoid any additional fees, please phone to arrange the collection of the item once you have finished.
What if equipment is returned damaged or incomplete?
Equipment should be returned in the same condition as supplied. Please notify us immediately of any damage, loss, or incidents. Insurance must be in place for all hires.
Do I need to refuel equipment?
You may refuel equipment before return; otherwise, fuel will be charged. Only the correct fuel type must be used, and care should be taken to avoid contamination.
Please note Only WHITE Diesel can be used in our diesel equipment.
Do you charge for cleaning?
We understand equipment is used in demanding environments. Cleaning charges will only apply where excessive cleaning is required. However, large accumulations of debris must be removed before collection for safety reasons.
